My name is Jonathan El Baze. I graduated in Industrial Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal and currently in Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Data Science and Business Analytics at HEC Montréal.

I started working at Fastercom just 2 years ago as a part-time Logistics Assistant intern while completing my engineering studies. I am now Logistics Analyst part-time for 1 year. My main tasks concern the creation and management of dashboards tailored to the needs of customers. This allows them to have a better visualization of their data in order to make more informed decisions. I also do project management for the implementation of FasterTMS for some new Fastercom customers. I also help with some ongoing projects for more complex and unusual data problems.

In order to validate my master's degree, I have to do a supervised project in the field of data science. With the help of the team, I therefore chose a project that could benefit me personally, as well as the advancement of the company's products.

The project consists in developing algorithms for creating sectors for Fastercom customers. In order to achieve this, various Machine Learning methods will be evaluated and implemented. This creation of sectors will make it possible toimprove performance company algorithms by breaking up the big problem of optimizing vehicle routes into smaller, simpler problems. So, they will be dealt with one after the other, instead of directly addressing the big problem. The gain in time and on the quality of the solutions obtained will improve customer satisfaction and reduce their ecological footprint by reducing the unnecessary trips made by their trucks.

As an intern at Fastercom, I quickly felt at home. My research project pushes me to ask for a lot of information from various colleagues, who are always very available to help me. As part of a small work team, it is always very easy to have all the necessary access. This is very important for the advancement of a data science research project. Indeed, most slowdowns are due to poor internal communication. Here this process is very simple, people want to help me speed up my project and it is very pleasant!
